Computer Engineering Registration

Special Instructions for Spring 2007 Registration

Computer Science Advanced Placement Exams
  • If you have taken the AP Computer Science Exam in Java and scored a 5 on the A, or a 4 or 5 on the AB, you do not need to take CMSC131.
  • If you have a programming background and would like to skip CMSC 131, you must pass a Computer Science Exemption Exam. Because students do not earn credits when they pass an exemption exam, it may be necessary to earn credit for higher-level course to meet all degree requirements. Consult an academic advisor for details.
  • If you have no programming background or took the exemption exam and were not able to exempt out of CMSC 131 then you must enroll in and successfully pass this course to continue in the program.

Registration for 400-level CMSC Courses
  • During pre-registration, computer engineering students may register for only two 400-level computer science courses. Permission to take these courses requires successful completion of all prerequisite courses. After December 8, students may register for additional 400-level CMSC courses.
